Here Come The Drums

I’ve been gettin’ real reckless.
Worried I won’t have enough time to check everything off of my checklist.
And I’m kinda scared that nobody sees me as any sorta worthwhile emotional investment.
Can’t really blame em, I know that I’m a handful.
I make more problems for myself than I ever planned to.
So turn around before I see you and gather up the courage that I need to come and meet you, I’m see through.
But nothin’s set in stone, a friend once told me, “Let it come to you or let it go.
Don’t let em know that you’re dying to tell em all your secrets.
Just tell em that you’re fine and just hope that they believe it.”
So I’ve been playin’ my part.
But everybody’s doing their best to take a piece of my heart.
And take the last shot at the person that I used to be.
So here’s to everybody that disapproves of me.

Here come the drums, everybody’s beating their rhythm hoping that you will come undone.
Undone.

Sick of dwellin’ on my mistakes, so it’s live it, love it, and leave it.
Do it the way you wanna cause you’ll never get to repeat it.
I’ve spent so long feelin’ so lost and defeated.
Now I’ve got a chance to change it, I’ve just gotta believe it.
I’ve got a hard time seein’ the truth behind the compliments.
I guess nothin’ will ever improve my self confidence.
My broken heart just holds myself and other hostages.
Until it’s filled up on letdowns and broken promises.
But hey! I do my best to smile.
I can’t tell if it’s workin’ cause I haven’t tried in a while.
I’m so sick of constantly bein’ reviled.
By people who don’t feel what I’m sayin’ cause it’s not in style.
I put my heart on the line, in between the words when they’re written.
So you can listen or not, I guess that’s your decision.
I’m lookin’ for the good in me that’s hidden
Underneath the damaged positivity that’s wrapped in ribbons.

I don’t think of much of myself, but I think highly enough.
To know that I’m a better person than the person I was.
And everybody that refuses to acknowledge it.
Automatically assumes the role of an apologist.
Apologies not needed, make your peace and just beat it.
Heard it a million times before and I don’t need it repeated.
I know that you’re “so sorry” first time that you cheated.
Play it off like you haven’t lived your whole damn life conceited.
I believe it. Knock your little trophy to the ground.
Cause I don’t see the point in sticking around.
The newly crowned king of everything that’s been forgotten.
That’s been beat up and abused, mistreated and downtrodden.
Cut my losses, wrote some raps about my life
And figured I don’t need some friends that got more faces than a pair of dice.
So when it seems like I’m not doing my best to keep in touch.
Just remember everything that coulda been us.
